According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved a Toyota Granvia which was carrying 14 passengers from Bulawayo.
One of the crash victims, a woman, reportedly died on the spot while another man died on admission at Plumtree Hospital. Three seriously injured passengers were taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals.
“The driver said the rear left wheel burst and he panicked, resulting in him losing control and the vehicle overturned several times,” a witness identified as Stephen Ncube said.
“The driver and the passenger who was on the front seat were lucky because they had put on their safety belts. The rest were thrown out (of the moving vehicle).”
Police in Matabeleland South could not be reached for comment yesterday.
May their souls RIP. Again and again we call upon those in the transport business to make sure the vehicles are road worth, no overloading, observing speed limits, safety belts etc. Manje uyatshela bani ozwayo edlula all the roadblocks eoverloaded and with worn out tyres amagranivia lawo.
