The event will start as a family show in the afternoon and end in the evening.

Ten gospel bands will perform in the afternoon and will be fronted by Dumi Nyongola and other crooners. The afternoon show will accommodate youths and adults who cannot travel at night.

One of the concert organisers, Primrose Takavada, said a cappella night will be held after the afternoon event.

“Organisers of the event realised that not everyone could attend evening shows, so we decided to start with a family show that will see 10 gospel bands performing during day while those who are able to come at night will be duly treated to an assortment of fun since 10 other groups will be performing in the night,” Takavada said.

She said the concert would be used as a preaching platform through music “and gospel lovers will be delighted by performances because various artistes who play different types of gospel music will be on stage”.

She said similar shows would be held fortnightly to give Bulawayo gospel artistes platforms since they had not been presented with such opportunities in the past.

This would be the first concert featuring Bulawayo artistes only. For years they have been relegated to feature as support acts to renowned artistes such as the Harare Charambas when visiting Bulawayo.

“We have decided to come up with our homegrown Bulawayo gospel concert that we want to nurture until it becomes regionally and internationally recognised because over the years artistes in the city have been appearing on other people’s shows,” Takavada added.
