This was heard by Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa when Braver Dube (31) and Mxolisi Moyo (38), both of Luveve, appeared before her facing theft charges on Monday.

The pair based at Chigumira shopping centre in Luveve were not asked to plead and were remanded out of custody on $150 each bail to August 5.

The court heard that Dube and Moyo were employed by Redan Petroleum as fuel attendants. The company is represented by manager Bridget Moyo.

It is alleged that on June 28, the two hatched a plan to steal money from the company.

At 10pm they knocked off from work and allegedly deliberately left the security alarm at the cash safe office off so they could easily regain entry.

The alarm is used to detect intruders after hours.

The two locked the doors and went away leaving behind the security officer Joseph Francis.

It was alleged that on June 29 at 3:10am, Dube went to the offices and sneaked in using office keys he got from Moyo. He unlocked the safe and took $14 220.

However, on his way out he was spotted by Francis who tried to stop him, but he fled. Francis reported the matter to the police.

To cover up the offence the two allegedly faked a robbery. They claimed to have been robbed of the safe keys, office keys, uniforms and cellphones.

They were later arrested, but the $14 220 was not recovered.
