A 41-YEAR-OLD Binga man has been jailed for an effective 16 years for violating the Parks and Wildlife Act and the Firearms Act after he was found in possession of a pair of elephant tusks.

Million Siabutu was also found in possession of a .375 riffle, spent cartridges (one for the 375 rifle and another for a 303) an elephant tail, an axe, a knife and a bag marked Electoral Commission of Zambia, where the rifle was hidden.

Siabutu was convicted and sentenced by Binga magistrate Anele Munamati last Friday.

Munamati sentenced him to 16-and-a-half years in jail.

Siabutu of Donga Village, Msenapongo area, Chief Sikalenge, Binga was arrested last week by a joint force comprising officials from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, Zimbabwe Republic Police and Campfire scouts. Bruce Maphosa prosecuted.
