Guide Boys

If you have a little man and you don’t want to miss those childhood moments, such as when they get a haircut you can enjoy doing it yourself. Cutting your boys hair at home helps save you money that could be used going to the barbershop and also gives you a chance to bond with your son. Boys haircuts are easy to do as long as you have the correct tools and guide.

Cutting your boy’s hair at home can be done super quickly and help save you the time you could have used to drive to the salon. It also gives the boy confidence in the process because he is working with someone he knows, which is not always the case at the barber shop. Follow these steps on how to do your boys haircuts at home.

  1. Prepare Your Work Area

Before you start the process of doing the boys haircuts, you should take your time to do preparation. Most people prefer cutting their boy’s hair from the bathroom so that the cleanup process will be easy later on.

You can prepare the bathroom as the perfect working space for the haircut. You should collect everything you will need for the process and place it in order. Ensure you have a chair, the shaving kit, a comb, and a few towels all in the working place to avoid a lot of movement during the process.

In most cases, little boys don’t like sitting still for long. Ensure you bring something that will distract the boy from settling for the process, such as an iPad or their favorite toys. You can also switch on to a show they love.

  1. Comb Their Hair Carefully

After getting the workspace ready, you should consider getting the tools you are going to use ready. This step is very easy, and it starts by combing their hair and removing all tangles and any hair product residues.

The next thing you need to do is attach the guards to the razor. It is important to begin this step with the biggest guard. You also need to apply oil to the razor to help prevent getting split ends after the cut. All this gets you ready to do the actual cutting.

  1. Start Cutting from the Top

Once you’ve had your razor oiled up and attached to the largest guard, you can now start cutting the hair from the top.

The hair on the top is preferably better left thicker for any boys haircuts, and this is why it is advisable you use the largest guard for the beginning.

You should ensure you do the cutting slowly and carefully to avoid making wrong moves, especially if it is your first time. Take time to inspect your progress to ensure you are on the right track because you can always cut more, but you cannot glue the hair back.

When you finish cutting the hair at the top, you can finish up by combing the hair to ensure you are satisfied with the results.

  1. Cutting the Sides and the Back

Once you are satisfied with the cutting on the top, you can change the guard number and get ready to trim the sides and the back. The hair at the side and at the back is usually left shorter in length than the one at the top, and that is why it is important to change the guard to one with a smaller number.

Follow your eye judgment to determine when you are happy with the length and the shaping of the hair on the sides and the back.

You can create a distinction on the length at the top and that on the sides and the back by introducing a fade.

  1. Trim the Neck and Sideburns

This step can be difficult, especially for beginners, but it is important that you don’t skip it. Use a smaller trimmer to clear out the hair on the edges starting from the back of the neck and going all the way around the head. Ensure you remember to eliminate the hair on the sideburns, too, for perfect boys haircuts.
