LOCAL arts managers have taken to social media to express their disgust at Gary Tight’s former manager Grammie Mtetwa for grabbing the Afro-pop musician’s social media platforms.
Gary, son of legendary musician Willom Tight, is embroiled in a legal dispute with Mtetwa over allegations of “account hijacking”.
It is claimed that Mtetwa took control of Gary’s social media accounts, including his Facebook page and YouTube channel, after their professional relationship ended.
In the wake of the fallout, arts promoters and critics took a swipe at Mtetwa.
“Don’t be an opportunist on ‘innocent’ talent! If your separation was not a good one, there should have been a better way to resolve it! I pray and hope justice prevails and you go back to where you came from,” said Gary’s former manager Godfrey “Vokal” Bakasa.
Bakasa has also managed Zimdancehall sensation Seh Calaz and Desmond “Stunner” Chideme.
“The problem with our industry is that we have these big-headed ‘managers’, who actually have no clue what management is really all about, but are at best just mere booking agents. This one should be stopped at once,” said music critic Marshal Shonhai.
Following the apparent takeover of the social media platforms, Mtetwa issued a statement to apologise to Gary’s fans.

In the statement, Mtetwa explained the desire to change the page’s name, citing the failure to reach an agreement between their respective teams for the sale of the page.
Mtetwa expressed gratitude for a successful collaboration with Gary, noting that their joint efforts boosted the artiste’s visibility and grew his following.
Amid the ongoing dispute, Gary’s legal team has taken steps to address the alleged hijacking of the accounts.
Both Gary and Mtetwa could not be reached for comment yesterday.
