Mae tops 2023 PRACA nominations

Mae has been nominated for the Best Female Artist, Best Dancehall Artist, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Best Album and Best Collaboration.

SONGBIRD Mandie Mae is topping the list of nominees for the Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards (PRACA) set for December 14 to 16 in Bulawayo.

The awards organisers released names of the nominees of the fourth edition last week.

Mae has been nominated for the Best Female Artist, Best Dancehall Artist, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Best Album and Best Collaboration.

Following Mae is Pumula Junction Dance Crew with two nominations for Outstanding Male Dancers and Outstanding Duo/Dance Group Across All Genres.

Under the film category, Lights Out has seven nominations for Best Feature Film, Best Actor (Jason Mushanyi), Best Cinematographer (Eric Nyai), Best Actor/Actress (Carlos Mabiza and Patience Khumalo, Production Company (Jewel Embryonic Studios), Outstanding Visuals Director Across all genres.

The Forgotten Millions has nominations for the Best Actor (Sebastia Tsangirai as Ziga), the Best Actress (Dorcas Moyo and Chantel Tshuma) and the Best Short/ Feature Film.

The awards organisers said the three-day event was committed to promoting artistic excellence and community development within and beyond the borders of Pumula in this year’s edition.

PRACA’s founder Happy Mpofu told NewsDay Life & Style that this edition aims at raising awareness on mental health and depression due to the rise of suicide cases in the city.

“This year we had a rise in terms of suicide cases caused by mental health and depression, we will have three events on the first day which will be dedicated to raising awareness. Our topics of concern will include mental health, sexual gender-based violence, drug and substance abuse.”

Mpofu promised a surprise gift to the People’s Choice winner to be revealed on the last day of the awards while honouring multi-talented artiste Nkululeko Nkala, popularly known as Khuliyo, for his contribution in the industry.

Some of the awards categories include the Best Hand Work awards, Sports awards, outside Pumula categories and community awards are Outstanding Youth-led Community Organisation, Youth led Project and Outstanding Environmentalist.
