LUCK has run out on a Harare land baron who was this week sentenced to three years in jail for swindling  desperate homeseekers.

Brighton Garura will serve one year and four months after 10 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Magistrate Ruth Moyo ordered Gurura to pay restitution to the complainants before October 28.

Allegations are that on a date unknown to the State but in June 2018, Garura misrepresented facts to one complainant that he could facilitate the issuance of housing stands in Chitungwiza. Garura was given US$9 000, but failed to provide the housing stand.

On another count, Garura defrauded Blessing Muzambai after promising to facilitate the issuance of housing stands at Pagomba Zengeza 4, Chitungwiza. Garura was given US$6 500, and he again failed to deliver.

The court heard that using the same modus operandi, Garura also defrauded one Robert Mafayiti on July 6, 2019 at Unit C junction.

He was given US$ 5 300

On the fourth count, Garura defrauded Cain Bondeponde US$4 200 after promising him a housing stand in Unit O Chitungwiza.
