Sizinda man nabbed for copper cable theft

A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Sizinda high-density suburb in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing a charge of copper cables theft.

Lordshare Munguma was not asked to plead when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube early this week. He was remanded in custody to December 4.

Darlington Hebrews Mtunzi, the loss control officer at Dunlop Company now National Tyres, is the complainant.

It is the State case that on November 14, Munguma went to Dunlop and cut 73 metres of armoured copper cables and disappeared.

The court heard that on the same day at 9pm, a security guard discovered that the copper cable had been stolen and reported the matter to the police.

Police details investigating the case observed footprints which were traced to Munguma’s residence.

The court heard that police arrested Munguma, but the stolen cables worth US$5 485 were not recovered.

According to Zesa Holdings at least 800 cases of vandalism and thefts of its cables worth more than US$1 million were recorded between January and June this year.
