POLICE in the Midlands province have recovered a tipper truck which was stolen recently from Fidelis Lin Gold Mine in Shurugwi.
According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the gold mine had a recruitment exercise for Class Two drivers.
He said four unknown men passed the recruitment test, but their particulars were never written down.
“Part of the test was to load gold ore and offload it, as well as to park the truck at a designated place. At about 1700 hours, the selected four drivers were supposed to park at the mine site, but one of them did not do so,” he said.
Mahoko said the driver stole the truck and travelled along Zvishavane Road.
“The tipper had a full tank of fuel of about 300 litres valued at US$450. Efforts to locate him were fruitless until about 1930 hours, when the matter was reported and information was received to the effect that the truck had been dumped at Msasa business centre, Shurugwi,” he said.
Mahoko said the truck was found parked, but all the fuel had been drained.
