US-based promoter to bring Jamaican star to Zimbabwe

AWARD-WINNING arts promoter Bevan Makaka is lining up two big shows in Zimbabwe and the United States buoyed by fans in the US who were enthralled by breathtaking performances of local artists.

Makaka, who is based in the US, recently bankrolled the Zimbabwe Musical and Cultural Festival, which featured musicians Gemma Griffiths, Tammy Moyo, Enzo Ishall, Ex-Q, Mudiwa Hood, DJs Tamuka and Levels as well as socialite Jackie Ngarande.

"I am now working on bringing a big Jamaican artiste to Zimbabwe,” Makaka said.

“The recent shows were amazing, the first one in Dallas was five hours of joy and happiness and there is also need for a bigger one here.”

Makaka, who operates under Xcelerate Entertainment said after the show they went to the lake where wheel spinners DJ Levels and DJ Tamuka wooed the mostly the Zimbabwe Diaspora crowd.

“After that we went to Washington DC, we toured the White House, we also made appointments with promoters and pushed our local music to the Americans,” he said.

Following calls by Zimbabweans for more shows from locals, the seven artists were excited to have broken new ground in the US.

“The really loved it, some are missing home and they told us that we should come back,” said Enzo Ishall.

“Performing in the US for the first time was an exhilarating and enriching experience.

“It was an opportunity to connect with a new audience, explore different cultures and perspectives, and expand my artistic horizons.

“It can also bring a sense of excitement, as l got to showcase my art to a fresh and unfamiliar crowd, potentially gaining new fans and followers.

“Overall, the tour was thrilling and transformative experience for me.”
