THE Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has completed a major upgrade of the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road, with 40km of asphalt overlay now in place.
According to the ministry's official page on X yesterday, the upgrade aims to enhance durability and safety for all road users.
"The completion of the 40km asphalt overlay on the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road marks a significant milestone in our efforts to improve the country's road infrastructure," the ministry said.
"Our teams are now finalising road markings to ensure clear traffic guidance and improved visibility."
Residents and motorists have welcomed the upgrade, citing improved safety and reduced travel times.
"This road was in a deplorable state and it's been a nightmare for us commuters. The new asphalt overlay will make a huge difference, especially during the rainy season,’’ said Rumbidzai Moyo, a resident.
"We're looking forward to the completion of the road markings. It will make a big difference, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions."
Another resident, Tawanda Chikwanda, said motorists could look forward to safer and more efficient travel with the asphalt overlay now complete.
"The road was always a challenge, especially for heavy vehicles. The upgrade will reduce the risk of accidents and make our journeys safer and more comfortable," Chikwanda said.
The completion of the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road upgrade is expected to have a positive impact on local businesses and communities, facilitating the transportation of goods and people.
