International Master Mandizha set for FIDE Chess World Cup

INTERNATIONAL Master Farai Mandizha has been selected to represent Zimbabwe at the prestigious 2025 FIDE Chess World Cup

INTERNATIONAL Master Farai Mandizha has been selected to represent Zimbabwe at the prestigious 2025 FIDE Chess World Cup, scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India, from October 31 to November 27.

This marks the World Cup’s return to India after 22 years and Mandizha is set to compete against the world’s best chess players on this grand stage.

Based in the USA, Mandizha is a seasoned competitor who has represented Zimbabwe at multiple Chess Olympiads.

Mandizha won African Amateur Individual Chess Championship and qualified for the World Amateur Individual Chess Championship, which was held in Cape Town, South Africa, where he got his FIDE Master title in 2003.

He also represented Zimbabwe at the World Chess Olympiad in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

His selection has been met with enthusiasm from the Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF), which expressed full confidence in his ability to shine at the tournament.

ZCF communications and public relations director, Agab Dozva, tipped Mandizha to fly the country's flag with distinction.

"We are proud to have Farai represent Zimbabwe at such a high-level event. His experience and skill make him the ideal candidate and we believe he will make the nation proud."

The chess community eagerly anticipates Mandizha’s performance as he carries Zimbabwe’s flag onto the global chess arena.
