PROMINENT Bulawayo modelling agency owner, Sipho Mazibuko, is set to introduce the Miss Strides Supermodel as part of her 40th birthday celebrations.

Mazibuko had similar shows about six years ago, but they were discontinued under a cloud of mystery.
The rebranded Miss Strides Supermodel is a combination of the previous Miss Summer and Winter Strides.
Mazibuko said that the pageant is not only for beauty queens parading on stage, but also to market models outside the country and make modelling a big business in Zimbabwe, as in other countries.
Casting for models has kicked off at Strides Boutique and they are held every Saturday and models from outside Bulawayo are also invited. The pageant will have two semi-finals in July, with the finals being held in August.
The main prize will be a modelling contract in China worth $50 000, while the two runner-ups will get contracts worth $20 000 each in South Africa with Heads Models in partnership with Strides Models.
On the night the models will be dressed by Zimbabwean designers, an initiative that will give local designers a chance to market themselves to the outside world, while a lecturer from the Bulawayo Polytechnic Design School will co-ordinate local designers

“Only clothes made by locals will be used and no Western and store-bought clothes will be allowed into the show. This is to promote the culture of designer wear in our country,” Mazibuko said.
