Donga was challenging incumbent Sithembiso Nyoni, who is also Small-to-Medium Scale Enterprises minister.

The matter was reported to the police on Monday. Zanu PF Matabeleland North provincial chairman, Richard Moyo yesterday confirmed the matter.

“We heard about the incident and referred the matter to the police so that they help identify the people behind the deed,” he told Southern Eye.

He, however, said the party did not have any suspects so far and were waiting for the police to make a breakthrough on the case. No comment could be obtained from the police.

Party sources said the development, which is suspected to be a smear campaign was discovered on Monday morning, the day of the party’s primary elections.

“It appears the posters were distributed overnight,” a source revealed. “On Monday morning they were strewn all over the constituency.

“It is suspected that this was part of a ploy to de-campaign Donga in the primary election.”
