The finals are slated for September 28 in Harare.

The event is expected to start at 12 noon with 10 bands set to compete for the top spot.

The groups in the provincial finals will be Hillbrow Stars, One-Way Africa, Bavumile Super Stars, Dakamela Super Sounds, Sounds of Universe, Runzenga Stars, Sesifikile Powered Echoes, Jacob Somerai, Chiraramo Boys, Molasis Express and Mpfure Express.

The provincial winners will pocket a cash prize of $1 000 for the sole ticket to represent the City of Kings. Second and third place winners stand to pocket $500 and $300 respectively.

In an interview with Southern Eye Lifestyle, Bulawayo provincial arts manager William Nyandoro said all was in place for the musical competition.

“On our part as the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) we are ready to roll and we are calling upon members of the public to come and see the talent that Bulawayo has,” Nyandoro added.

The Chibuku Road to Fame competition is a collaborative effort between NACZ the organisers of the event and Delta Beverages, the sponsors.

The competition, which started in 2001, is aimed at promoting the development of the music industry through identifying and promoting music groups with potential to produce and record their music.

Bulawayo won the national crown once in 2006 when BlackFace scooped the top prize.

Last year Facebook Brothers won the provincial finals and represented the province in the national finals in Harare, but came back empty handed.
