The resolution to ask party supporters to pay for the celebrations was passed at a recent Zanu PF provincial co-ordinating committee meeting held in Gwanda and attended by the newly elected parliamentarians.

However, the decision has not gone down well with some supporters who felt they were already being abandoned just over two months after securing victory for the party in the July 31 polls.

“When they were campaigning, they promised us a lot of things, but now we are being told to pay for the celebrations.

“It means if you do not have that dollar then you are not welcome (at the celebrations),” a Zanu PF supporter in Gwanda North, said.

Zanu PF has been known to hold huge festivities, but has reportedly fallen on hard times and now relies on well-wishers.

The party will launch provincial victory celebrations at Pelandaba Stadium, where thousands of supporters from across Matabeleland South are set to attend.

After Saturday’s official provincial launch, individual legislators and councillors would be allowed to hold victory celebrations in their respective constituencies and wards.

However, some party heavyweights such as national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo have already hosted their own victory celebrations.

Zanu PF won all 13 National Assembly seats in Matabeleland for the first time since 2000 when the MDC first constested elections.
