SOCCER fans countrywide were fuming yesterday after leading sport channel SuperSport failed to broadcast the much-awaited Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo from kick-off with technical problems being blamed for the mess-up.

The game, which made history by becoming the first local football match to be broadcast live in the splendour of high definition on the SuperSport 1HD channel, was only broadcast from the 28th minute of the first half.

A lot of hype had been created in the build-up to the match with a barrage of adverts, but the ‘world of champions’ channel short-changed its HD and SuperSport Select viewers by failing to broadcast the biggest game in the domestic PSL right from kick-off.

The anxious fans were frustrated as they were first forced to watch highlights of the friendly match between Brazil and Zambia and those of an old Highlanders and Triangle league game before a sudden crossover to live coverage of yesterday’s epic encounter in the 28th minute.

Highlanders and Dynamos fans took to social networks such as Facebook to express their frustration and confusion.

“What SuperSport channel is the Dynamos and Highlanders match really meant be on,” asked one Facebook user.

“SuperSport, you have really disappointed us, what is this nonsense?” another Facebook user vented his frustration.
