Ntabazinduna Prison were the latest victims of Sparrows’ rampage in the league as they lost 13-70 at Highlanders Clubhouse on Saturday.

The result saw Sparrows open a 20-point gap to second-placed Jumbo Queens who also registered a crucial 28-22 victory over Fairbridge on the same day.

Sparrows are now top with 66 points from 22 games with eight games to go while Jumbo Queens have 46 points from 21 games.

If Sparrows win all their games, then they will wrap up the title as most teams in the league will not reach the 90-point mark even if they won all their games.

Sparrows coach Precious Mudenge said they were still concentrating on the remaining games despite their fine run.

“We cannot say we are champions yet because we are still to play other games. We are yet to play a team like Railstars,” she said.

Railstars have only lost a single game this season while Mighty Queens is another team that has only faltered once.

It was a good day for fourth-placed Mighty Queens as they got maximum points following their 62-7 win over Kensington at Emakhandeni Grounds on Saturday.

Mighty Queens have bagged 45 points although they still have to play 14 games.

If they win all their remaining games Mighty Queens will get to 87 points, second-placed Jumbo Queens will get to 73 points, third-placed Zesa will amass 79 points. Railstars will have 87 points while Fairbridge will end up with 63 points.

In another game played on Saturday, Railstars beat Lobengula 45-10 at Raylton Sports Club. Sobukhazi, Old Nic Mine, Phakamani and TelOne have found the going tough as they occupy the last four slots in the league.

Log anchors TelOne have not won a single game out of the 17 they have played, Phakamani have one win from 13 games, Old Nic have two wins from 16 games while Sobukhazi have two wins from 14 games.
