Langa was speaking at White City Stadium soon after touring the facilities that will host the games at various venues around the city.

“The coming of the Youth Games to the city of Bulawayo will obviously benefit the city. It will benefit Bulawayo in terms of infrastructure and tourism. This morning we toured the infrastructure with permanent secretary and colleagues from the City Council of Bulawayo.

“We started with the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) where we intend to house more than 4 000 participants. Yes, the structure is there, but we are confident that come September 30 next year, there should be something. The government of Zimbabwe through the leadership of his excellency President Robert Mugabe is committed to ensure that we successfully host these games in the City of Bulawayo. There is a lot of work that needs to be done,” he said.

The minister also called for support from all stakeholders.

“We will not do this sort of work alone as the government or the ministry. We will bring on board business communities, parastatals and also the corporate world across the country. Together we can ensure that we successfully host the games,” Langa said.

He said the games will also benefit children and the country as a whole.

The minister toured Nust, Bulawayo Athletics Club, Bulawayo City Pool, Barbourfields Stadium, Luveve Stadium and ended at White City Stadium.
