The organisers said yesterday the gift was intended “to celebrate and to honour” the city’s artistes before attending the awards ceremony at 7Arts Theatre in Harare.

The executive producer of the awards, Aldrian Harrison — popularly known as Beefy in the entertainment industry — told Southern Eye Lifestyle: “We are holding this event to show that hip-hop in Zimbabwe grows and spreads to all corners of the country.

“All artistes should be recognised no matter where they come from. If the budget allowed, we would have conducted these events in every province,” Beefy said.

POY is up for two gongs — best male artiste of the year and best promoter and Polite Sithole, aka P2daoh, will be running for producer of the year.

Klap and Kasi Lunatics will make up the Bulawayo groups that have been nominated for best hip-hop group of the year. Anton Banana and Yeukai Zinyoro have both been nominated for best solo dancer award while T-diddz and Trex are vying for the best high school act.

Antivirus and Explosion are nominees for the best dance group for 2013 while local disc jockey Mark Vusani has been nominated for best club DJ.

Arizona Spur Bulawayo has been nominated as the best corporate brand supporting local hip-hop while Da-Grapevine has been nominated for best promoter of the genré in 2013. The night will also feature live performances by POY and Klap, among others.
