Although it could not be established when he started training with SuperSport, South African media said Sibanda who has been touted to be keen on joining local side Highlanders, was due to end his training stint with the club yesterday.

FC Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo yesterday said the 2010 soccer star of the year had indicated to the Zvishavane club that he would not be with them for the 2014 season, but she was not aware that he had crossed the border to South Africa.

His contract with FC Platinum ends on December 31.

“We have not finalised with the player, but he has decided that he will not be with us next season.

His contract ends on December 31. We are not aware that he is in South Africa,” Chizondo said.

SuperSport coach Cavin Johnson confirmed to media in South Africa that the player had been training with his club, but was quick to point out that they would have to look at local options before making a commitment on Sibanda.

“So far he has trained with us and played in a couple of friendly matches, but we will have to look at the local options available first before we can make a commitment about bringing him in. There are a lot of things to consider before we make a decision,” Johnson told KickOff.com.

Sibanda is expected to be back home today in time to attend the Castle Lager soccer star of the year banquet to be held in Harare tonight as he was also selected into the 11 finalists.

The dreadlocked attacking midfielder, Joel “Josta” Ngodzo and Welcome Ndiweni have reportedly indicated they would be abandoning ship at FC Platinum and on their way back to Bulawayo to Highlanders.

Also expected to be back from trial stints in South Africa to attend the soccer star ball are Highlanders goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya and Hwange right-back Erick Chipeta, who have been training with Golden Arrows.

Diya has also attracted the attention of Ajax Cape Town.

Chicken Inn’s Tendai Ndoro has already penned a one-year deal with Mpumalanga Black Aces while Harare City’s Silas Songani has trained with Maritzburg United. Another Chicken Inn player Kudakwashe Mahachi, on league champions Dynamos’ radar for the 2014 Caf Champions League, has been linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

All players who have links with the South African clubs are among the eleven 2013 Castle Lager soccer star of the year finalists attending the banquet tonight.
