Speaking to sister paper Standard on Friday, PSL chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele said there were on the verge of clinching new deals with most of their yesteryear sponsors.

“We are happy as an association that we are at an advanced stage of retaining all our sponsors for the new soccer season. Usually we start the business of the year rolling with a NetOne Charity Shield and I am happy to tell football fans that it’s there and the sponsors have confirmed. We have actually come up with this year’s qualification criteria. What is left now is for the sponsors to unveil this year’s package as well as putting pen to paper for a new contract,” Ndebele said.

He added the PSL was again happy to announce the availability of the top-eight team tournament, the BancABC Sup8r Cup.

“Again I can confirm that the BancABC Cup will be played this year. We are just waiting for Caf and the football mother body Zifa to release their calendars so that we can then come up with our own taking into consideration their schedules,” Ndebele added.

However, Ndebele could not shade light on the Delta sponsorship of the league.

“I think PSL chairman Twine Phiri is the best to comment on that issue. What I can confirm is we are not losing any sponsors this time around, Instead we might add more sponsors if things go according to plan.”

It is, however, understood that PSL and Delta are close to signing a new deal.

Mbada Diamonds are the other sponsors. The diamond miners sponsor the country’s richest 16-team tournament which will enter its fourth consecutive year this term.
