CAPS United and Dynamos’ rivalry is set to spill into management as leaders from the two clubs square off for the Castle Lager Premiers Soccer League (PSL) chairman’s post.

Current Caps United boss, Twine Phiri, who is likely to seek re-election for the PSL post will face Dynamos chairman Keni Mubaiwa with Highlanders’ Peter Dube still to declare his interest.
PSL elections are pencilled for February 23. Submissions for names were opened on January 23 up until February 11. The electoral committee will deliberate on the names submitted on February 13. Mubaiwa boldly confirmed to sister paper Standardsport that he will be facing, whoever, will be in the running for the hot seat.
Mubaiwa said he wanted to go up there and give the league a new face.
“I can confirm that I am in the running for the PSL hot seat. There are a number of things that the current leadership has been failing to address which I think I can handle,” Mubaiwa said.
Pressed to reveal more on what he think has not been going well, Mubaiwa had this to say; “There has been hot issues like our sponsors, they have not been happy for a long time. I want to bring back a smile on their faces.
“As Dynamos we have for the past years wanted that chairman’s post, but it has not been possible, so this time, we are going for it. In the past, there have been cases of two or three clubs failing to fulfill fixtures due to poor planning that characterised our league of which it must be a thing of the past. Clubs must see where we are going and where we are coming from.”

Phiri said he would discuss the issue with his advisors before making up his mind.
“I have to engage my advisors first before I start talking about seeking re-election. What I know is I would want to do more to what I started in the previous tenure. I think I will make my position clear anytime soon,” Phiri said.
The soft-spoken Caps United boss has brought smiles in many PSL clubs face after securing major league and cup sponsors during his tenure.
Dube said he was going to discuss the issue with other club members at the Highlander Annual General Meeting to be held at Bosso’s clubhouse in Bulawayo this morning. Dube is Phiri’s deputy in the current executive whose life ends when a new executive is elected on February 23.
“We are having our AGM on Sunday (today) so these are some of the things that make up our agenda. I will talk to other members about it and see if we can challenge for the hot seat,” Dube said.
