BULAWAYO-BORN writer Christopher Mlalazi has established a publishing company Plumtree Books.
LUYANDUHLOBO MAKWATI OWN CORRESPONDENT
The company will specialise in children’s literature.
Mlalazi told Southern Eye Lifestyle that he would work closely with other writers who are interested in children’s literature upon realising that most authors in the country were mainly concerned about adult literature.
“I realised that our own children do not have adequate literature to sharpen their minds when they are still young,” he said.
“Our children are affected by the borrowed literature from other countries, especially Europe, because Western literature does not capture our lifestyle and does not correspond with our environment.”
Plumtree Books has already published Mlalazi’s children’s stories, which was released in November last year titled Giraffe Get’s A Long Neck
It’s a beautiful story with fantastic illustrations that were done by talented Bulawayo visual artist, Aubrey Bango.
