In another incident, couple from Chiredzi spent Saturday night marooned on a rocky patch in the Mungwezi River after a sudden flash flood as they were crossing the river.

The fishermen from Tafirenyika and Gudza villages under Chief Chitsa ended up seeking refuge on tree tops when the spillage suddenly increased leaving them with no other place to go.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Chief Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed the incident saying the fishermen were marooned behind the dam’s spillway from around 10am to 4pm following a sudden increased overflow and had to be airlifted to safety by an AFZ chopper.
