The Nama ceremony is slated for February 15 at a Bulawayo hotel.

Voting for the people’s choice award opened last Saturday to afford the public a chance to select their favoured contenders for the gong.

Catherine Mthombeni, the communications manager for NACZ, said the people’s choice award is given to an individual or institution that would have received the most votes from members of the public.

“The public is at liberty to select an artist of their choice from the Nama categories of music, literary arts, dance, visual arts, film and television, theatre and spoken word,” she said.

The voting process is open to all Zimbabwe cellular networks with the short code 39436.

The artiste with the most votes will be deemed the winner and would be honoured on the awards night.

Meanwhile, NACZ is expected to announce all the Nama nominees today.

A total 664 entries were received for this year’s edition compared to 514 received last year.

The entries were from all provinces from production houses, studios, stables, galleries, organisations, associations, groups, artistes and monitors.

In all the categories they were various entries, with the music category taking a lead with 256 entries and the spoken word category being the least with 18 entries.

However, the visual category had 137 entries, film and television 84 entries, theatre 56 entries, dance 48 entries and literary 34 entries. There were 31 entries in the media category.
