Mahachi joined former league champions Highlanders on a six-month contract after which he will join South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, a club that he signed for after impressing in the African Nations Championships finals.

Bantu Rovers’ contract with Mahachi was due to end in December.

Chicken Inn chairman Lifa Ncube yesterday said the fast-foods outlet team had washed their hands of Mahachi.

“Highlanders have not requested the clearance from us. We are not allowed to clear him (Mahachi) because he still has a contract with Bantu Rovers,” he said.

Highlanders chairman Peter Dube said they have since approached Bantu Rovers on Mahachi.

“We do not think there is going to be a problem with the clearance. Have you heard that there could be a problem?” Dube quipped. “I think we have done that. Everything is on course.”

Southern Eye Sport has it on good authority that Bosso wrote to Bantu Rovers on Wednesday on the matter and by yesterday Bantu Rovers general manager Wilbert Sibanda was still working on the paperwork.

Sundowns are said to have advised Highlanders to approach Bantu Rovers for assistance in clearing the nimble-footed midfielder.

Mahachi had been on loan to Chicken Inn and his contract with the club expired on December 31 last year.

Former Chicken Inn captain Chindungwe said Highlanders and Chicken Inn were still in negotiations.

“They are still discussing. I have not been made aware of what they talked about. I am not sure what they will say or what they have said,” Chindungwe said.
