FC Platinum won their first piece of silverware this year with a 2-0 over 10-man Chapungu in the CG Msipa Charity Shield final at Mandava Stadium yesterday.

Marshal Mudewe, who scored a brace in the semi-final win against Shabanie Mine on Saturday, notched yet another brace yesterday in the 34th and 49th minutes to seal the victory for the platinum miners.

Chapungu, however, had to play the entire second half a man short after Charles Murisa was shown a straight red card on the stroke of half time for a reckless lunge at Mudewe.

FC Platinum could have gone on to win by a wider margin as Mudewe had his spot-kick saved by the Chapungu goalie Roy Mazingi in the 62nd minute.

The win saw FC Platinum walk away with $6 000 while the losing finalists Chapungu took home $3 000.

After the match, the winning coach Lloyd Mutasa said he was delighted to the CG Msipa Charity Shield.

“I feel honoured to win this trophy. Although it was just a four-team tournament, the competition was tough and I believe it’s a good step for us. I hope it will give us confidence going into our next assignments.”

Losing coach John Nyikadzino said the red card had changed everything.

“The red card was the turning point and playing with a man down worked against us. However, I think we played very well, considering that we played the entire second half with just 10 men,” he said.
