Stephanie Campbell became the top goalscorer of the tournament scoring five goals in two matches while teammate Estelle Stambolie scored four.

According to Hockey Association of Zimbabwe vice-president Humphrey Chigwedere: “The Zimbabwean girls’ team thrashed Kenya by 15 goals to nil.

“The girls scored two quick goals in the first two minutes of the match which must have unsettled the East Africans, by the second chukka it was 10 nil and then from then on the flood gates were opened to complete the whitewash.”

He said the boys lost their match against South Africa, only managing three goals in the match.

“On the other hand, the Zimbabwe boys again found the going very tough when they were handed a 10-3 thrashing by our neighbours South Africa in match number eight.

“This left the task more difficult for any qualification hopes for us as we go into day three carrying two defeats,” he said.

Winners of the tournament will book a place at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China, later this year.

Zimbabwe is competing against Zambia, South Africa, Kenya and Namibia.
