THE National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) netball district competition in Bulawayo is set to be held in July in preparation for the Stella Tea Netball national championship finals which have been pencilled for August at Nyamhunga High School in Kariba. SPORTS CORRESPONDENT
Sikhulile High School will host the district championships which will be held on July 11 and the provincial competition on July 18.
Last year, Bulawayo was represented by Sikhulile in Plumtree, but the team did not perform well although Nash head in charge of netball, Sibongile Nsikane, said they hoped to do better this year.
“We held a meeting with the district heads and they will play within their locations before we hold the inter-district competition. We hope this year we will do better at the national championships,” she said.
Bulawayo has five districts Imbizo, Bulawayo Central, Mzilikazi, Khami and Reigate.
Pamushana High School of Masvingo were last year’s champions after beating Mashonaland Central’s Chifamba High School in at Khalanyoni High School in Plumtree.
Nsikane said despite the team’s poor performance, three of their players were selected to take part in the Confederation of Schools Sports Associations of Southern Africa games held in Harare.
Nomagugu Makhalima, Valerie Sibanda and Dumoluhle Ncube were part of the team.

Nsikane said the three were still eligible to play in this year’s competition as they are still below the age of 17.
The national tournament is sponsored for $60 000 and 12 schools are expected to participate.
