The PSL season is set to end of December 20 with the Mbada Diamonds Cup final, but the Region Five Games start on December 3 to 16.

The league has 15 second round matches to go, the One Wallet Cup, which starts today, Chibuku Super Cup, Zimbabwe National Army Charities Cup final and the Mbada Diamonds Cup.

League chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele confirmed the SRC request.

“It is obvious we have a challenge with the fixtures. We have had a request from the SRC (Sports and Recreation Commission) to make sure that the league ends before the AU games (Region V Youth Games) start,” Ndebele said.

The PSL CEO said the league programme would be further complicated by the closure of Barbourfields, Luveve and White City stadiums for renovations for the Region V Games.

“We have to consider the fact that the stadiums will soon be unavailable for the four Bulawayo teams (Chicken Inn, Bantu Rovers, How Mine and Highlanders) because of the Youth Games,” he said.

The engineer in charge of the construction of the infrastructure for the Youth Games, Herbert Karuma, said last week Barbourfields would be closed when they work on the drainage.

Renovations at Barbourfields Stadium have already started and could see Highlanders moving from their traditional ground to Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.
