Mpopoma, Induna win Luvac tourney

MPOPOMA and Induna High schools were the winners of the fourth edition of the Luveve High School Volleyball Academy (Luvac) tournament played at the school on Saturday.

Induna emerged winners in the boys section after beating Mpopoma 2-0 while Mpopoma girls made up for the boys’ loss in the final claiming top spot with a 2-1 victory over Usher.

The winners walked away with a trophy and 14 jerseys while the second and third-placed schools received 12 and 10 jerseys respectively in the competition that saw participating schools walking away with certificates sponsored by CBZ Bank.

To get to the finals, Induna beat Luveve 2-0 while Mpopoma got the better of Usher winning by the same margin in the boys’ semi-finals. In the girls’ section, Usher beat Eveline 2-1 while Mpopoma beat Empandeni by the same margin in the semi-finals.

Empandeni came third winning 2-1 against Eveline in the girls section while Usher beat Luveve 2-1.

On Friday, Josiah Chinamano beat Mahlathini 2-0 to win the boys’ primary schools category at Luveve High School. Usher scooped the girls’ primary school as they beat Sacred Heart 2-0.

In the semi-finals, Josiah Chinamano beat Mtshingwe 2-1 Mahlathini beat Luveve 2-0 in the boys’ category booking a slot in the final. Usher and Sacred Heart went through to the girls’ finals with a 2-0 victory after getting the better of Mtshingwe and Josiah Chinamano respectively.

Mtshingwe came third after a 2-0 victory over Luveve in the boys’ third and fourth play-off while Mtshingwe girls were also third beating Josiah Chinamano 2-0.

Tournament organiser William Mazviro said the tournament was successful.

“The tournament went on very well. The attendance was good considering that schools are about to close. The standards of the competition have gone higher. Schools are raising their best teams,” he said.

“Mpopoma and Milton have dominated the secondary schools boys’ category over the years, but Induna have won it this year. Eveline have been dominating, but they are fourth this year.”

Players who excelled received individual prizes.
