THE Zimbabwe International Trade Fair company has sold about 75% of available space for its new initiative known as Water, Sanitation and Energy Expo (WASHen) scheduled for September 25 to 26 at the ZITF grounds in Bulawayo, an official has said.

 ZITF general manager Noma Ndlovu said organisations that had booked included local authorities, non-governmental organisations, water bottling companies, suppliers of hygiene products, water treatment, filters and chemicals, rainwater management, desalination, water engineering and equipment, wastewater treatment and disposal, pump manufacturers, environmental management advocacy organisations, designers of environmentally friendly technologies, water resource management bodies, rural development projects, power and water projects and distributors of solar equipment.

“The WASHen expo, which is running alongside the conferences, has sold 75% of available space. We are anticipating more bookings from producers of submersible piping systems, irrigation equipment, sanitation products, water tanks and packaging, energy products as well as other related products and services,” Ndlovu said.

She said the expo had attracted two foreign speakers from South Africa and Mozambique. The expo will present opportunities for investment, joint ventures and technology transfer in the country.

Environment, Water and Climate minister, Saviour Kasukuwere will deliver the keynote address on. “Water at the Centre Stage of Zimbabwe’s Economic Development”.

Issues to be deliberated on include financial turnaround in urban utilities, rural water financing, rural and urban water planning, public and private sector roles in hygiene and sanitation, among other interesting topics.

On September 26, WASHen will join the national Clean Energy Week celebrations through an energy conference themed: “Relevant, Integrated and Viable National Energy Solutions”.

Energy and Power Development ministry has been invited to speak on “Energy as the Core Driver of Zimbabwe’s Economic and Social Development”.
