The evening event will be held at the popular 4 Jays Bar and Restaurant and the winning crew is set to receive a “surprise package” and the title best pantsula dance group, according to the organisers.

Promoter of the show Dumisani Magalane said he had been working with the groups in various shows and now wanted to give them exposure.

“I have been doing shows with some of the pantsula boys for a long time, so we thought it was time we took it to another level,” he said.

“My desire is for these groups to be recognised in society as they exude great talent in their choreography, style and creativity,” he said.

The dance competition will feature Votos Lotos, The Side Effects, Omajaivane and The Volcano dance crews.

“We expect this to be a great show as we will introduce something unique to the people of Plumtree,” Magalane said.

“All is set and the groups are ready to light up the stag.”

He said a hip-hop event was also lined up for the border town next month.

Votos Lotos leader Daniel Muza said his team was elated at the opportunity to showcase their talent in Plumtree.

“I am pleased that dance groups are growing in Plumtree, I only knew of two, but four will be competing on Friday, which shows growth,” he said.

“The pantsula lifestyle has been negatively stereotyped as notorious and associated with filthy knife-wielding kasi thugs and robbery. This is just a stereotype and we want to change that conception.”

Muza said there was a lot of talent in Plumtree, but most of it was not exposed due to lack of resources.

“People are hesitant to start music bands and dance crews because it eventually crumbles due to of lack of support as sponsors usually concentrate on football,” he said.

On the day the entertainment line-up will include DJs Yugoe and Bhabha who will be on the decks.
