JOHANNESBURG – Independent rap artiste and record label owner, Cassper Nyovest, has taken to Instagram to show off a toned down physique which is considerably slimmer than his pre-gym body.
It seems the era of proudly showing off a round belly, known as a mkhaba is surely coming to an end. Hot on the heels of SA music stars such as J’Something, KO and Proverb ditching the shisanyama for a more refined diet consisting of fruits, vegetables and lean meat — Cassper Nyovest, real name Refiloe Phoolo has followed suit.
The rap artiste, who is currently one of country’s most popular musicians having enjoyed a stellar year with hits Gusheshe, Phumakim and Tsbip was once the opposite of the slim, muscle bearing rap stereotype.
Instead he embraced his pudgy self, often captioning his images: #sexychubbyni**a (sic). But all that is soon to be a thing of the past as Nyovest took to Instagram and Twitter, which by the way are the popular platforms to do big reveals — to show off his healthier looking self.
He said: “Lost a lil weight and my clothes fit me better. I even feel stronger on stage. Health is power…
I’m a lil smaller but I’m still the #SexyChubbyNigga. Don’t get it twisted. I’m just a lil fresher now. Lol (sic).”
His Twitter followers posted mixed reviews of Nyovest’s new physique, @IamGift_RealG and @Duncy_M3 tweeting: “You look much Better thou. flex em muscles” and @Shandis10 saying: “Go back to chubby nigga dude..almost ddnt recognise u!! Lol (sic).”
Nyovest has also begun uploading pics of his diet and started with one of kiwi fruit and melons, captioning it: “Usually it would be 6 slices of white bread, eggs, bacon, beans, wors, avo and cheese but since we wanna be healthy now it’s…health is power (sic).”
