PRETORIA — There’s a huge chunk of relief in store for motorists this week.

The energy department has announced that the price of 93 and 95 octane petrol will decrease by R1,27 and R1,23 a litre, respectively, from Wednesday. This will bring the Gauteng price of 93 down to R11,02 a litre.

The price of diesel would decrease by between R1,04 and R1,05 per litre, while the price of illuminating paraffin would drop by R1,44 per litre. Liquefied petroleum gas would decrease by R2,10 per kg.

Last month, the Automobile Association predicted the petrol price would drop by between R1,05 to R1,07 cents per litre, and the price of diesel by around R0,85.

January’s decrease comes as a result of declining international oil prices offsetting the weakening of the rand against the US dollar.
