The competition will see the winning school being chosen to represent the province at the National Under-20 tournament to be held at a later date.

Tournament director Mthulisi Makhosana said: “We are expecting at least 14 schools on Saturday and Sunday to take part in the tournament and we will use this tournament to select the team that will represent Bulawayo at the National Under-20 Nash basketball tournament to be held this year,” Makhosana said.

Meanwhile, last Saturday Gifford hosted the first round of Under-17 boys’ schools basketball tournament in Bulawayo and 13 schools including Nkulumane, Petra, Milton, Ihlathi, Founders and Sizane took part with four schools reaching the semi-finals. Nkulumane beat Ihlathi 24-11 , Petra beat Milton 15-12.

Nkulumane crushed Petra 35-11 in the final.

Makhosana said they had selected the provincial Under-17 boys’ team.

“So far we have selected a team of 18 boys who played well at the tournament that we had at Gifford last Saturday, to represent Bulawayo in the national Under-17 tournament, but the dates are yet to be announced,” Makhosana added.
