Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) convenor of selectors Givemore Makoni has been promoted to the newly created post of director responsible for development and immediately cedes his post as franchise administrator at Mountaineers.

Makoni, however, will remain as convenor until the ZC board makes a new decision on that post, but it is expected to be before the India tour next month.
Alistair Campbell, previously managing director for cricket affairs, has been moved to the new position of director of commercial affairs, international and franchise cricket, while Esther Lupepe will carry on her functions as director of finance and administration.
ZC chief executive officer (CEO) Wilfred Mukondiwa explained the decisions.
“ZC is continuing with its restructuring exercise to enhance the performance of the national team,” Mukondiwa said.
“The exercise has now led to a review of the ZC executive structure, leading to the setting up of three distinct units which will be led by directors who will carry out the main functions of the organisation under the direction and supervision of the CEO.”
He said they had seen it fit to separate the development and club cricket division in order to give it its due attention and resources.
The functions were previously under Campbell’s wing.
“We looked at what Campbell was doing and we felt it was too much for one person,” Mukondiwa said.
“We also thought development was so important that it needed to be given more attention. The state of club cricket also needs attention.”
ZC has already begun the process of identifying a new convenor of selectors, and the cricket committee has since made recommendations which will be forwarded to the board with Kenyon Ziehl expected to take over.
Mukondiwa said a decision on that would be made expediently, while a decision on who takes over as Mountaineers administrator had also not yet been made.
The national team will be playing India in a one-day international series in a month’s time and ZC is in a rush to make sure all posts are filled.
