Bulawayo is set to host another investment conference specifically targeting women entrepreneurs as calls for turning around the city’s fortunes grow louder with the passing of each day.

The three-day conference organised by the Provincial Affairs ministry in conjunction with the Bulawayo City Council, codenamed Bulawayo Women Investment Conference 2025, will run from September 3 to 5 at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds.

The special indaba comes hard on the heels of Bulawayo’s July inaugural Khumbul’ekhaya Investment Conference (KIC), held in Harare recently.

Another Bulawayo Investment Development Conference (Bedcon25) was held in the city in April.

The two events were designed to lure investment back into the city, tackle economic challenges facing local businesses, and drive sustainable growth.

“The conference (Bulawayo Women Investment Conference 2025) will serve as a pivotal platform for promoting economic independence and leadership among women in Bulawayo and beyond, especially recognising the systemic barriers faced by women as they venture into business,” said Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Judith Ncube.

“Through this conference, we aspire to empower women by providing them with the tools, knowledge, and connections necessary to navigate the investment landscape, thereby contributing to the overall economic development of Bulawayo and abroad.”

She stated that several trailblazing women and business leaders would be part of their key speakers, offering an ‘exciting programme’ for Bulawayo and Zimbabwe’s women in Business.

The conference seeks to empower women with knowledge and skills related to investment and financial management, and foster connections among women investors, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.

The event will also provide sessions on investment strategies, market trends, and financial literacy.

Ncube said the conference will emphasise the importance of diversity in investment practices and leadership roles, connect participants with mentors and provide access to funding sources, investment tools, and resources tailored for women.

“As we work towards the attainment of an upper middle class income economy status — Vision 2030, investing in women's economic potential is essential for sustainable, inclusive growth, and this conference marks a critical step in building a future where women are equal drivers of our nation's prosperity,” Ncube said.

“I am encouraging women and corporates to partner with us in our drive to position women for inclusive economic participation and development.”

Bulawayo, once termed the country’s former industrial hub, has witnessed massive de-industrialisation over the years as companies closed shop or relocated elsewhere.
