Hip-hop dance, tours broadened my music: Que

Having stepped onto the musical scene in 2019 as a recording artiste and composer, Que, born Tadiwanashe Nyanga, popularised his style and work, bringing a fresh touch to the music scene

HIP-HOP artiste Que believes he did not venture into music by accident, as he has always been intrigued by the art, which was largely influenced by exposure to his genre of choice.

Having stepped onto the musical scene in 2019 as a recording artiste and composer, Que, born Tadiwanashe Nyanga, popularised his style and work, bringing a fresh touch to the music scene.

The 27-year-old told NewsDay Life & Style that his music was inspired by a variety of experiences and cultural exposure.

He further revealed that his tour of Germany broadened his creativity and encouraged him to develop a sound that resonates with both Zimbabwean and German audiences.

“While I am still operating within the subculture space and have not fully crossed into the mainstream, I continue to evolve,” he said.

Que’s music is also deeply influenced by his personal emotions.

He draws inspiration from Okmalumkoolkat, a South African hip-hop pioneer, who has become both a mentor and friend.

Their friendship has grown and recently, Que was invited to perform at the Friends of Amstel festival in the neighbouring country. They are collaborating on new musical projects.

Lyrically, Que explores the theme of love.

He expressed the desire to create music that brings good energy, cool sounds and club vibes.

Que added that his sound fell under the genre of Indie Pop — a fusion of pop, Afro/R&B and hip-hop.

“I take pride in representing Zimbabwe on the international stage and I’m excited about how well my music has been received overseas during my tours,” he said.

He went on to reveal that his focus is on career growth with the aim of creating engaging content.

“One of my key goals is to secure an international booking agent who can connect me with music festivals across the globe. I am also actively working to land brand endorsement opportunities,” he said.

Through his social media accounts, Que has positively impacted the youth through partnering an non-governmental organisation Zichire-BC on a campaign against drug abuse.

“I am passionate about creating spaces where young people can express themselves, grow and stay inspired — and I am open to collaborating with other individuals or organisations that share this mission,” he added.

Beyond music, he is an amazing fashion designer and creative director, which he says have been integral to his brand identity, as they help to shape a unique style and persona that enhances his public image and creates additional avenues for growth.

“No matter where you’re from or what your situation is, chase your dreams relentlessly — just go for it.”
