Pitbull owner faces culpable homicide as unrelated arrest warrants come to light

Mike Mupinga, who appeared before regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, will appear in court on Friday for bail ruling.

Harare, June 3 (NewsDayLive) - A Harare man who owned a pitbull dog that killed a neighbor has been remanded in custody after being charged with culpable homicide.

Mike Mupinga, who appeared before regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, will appear in court on Friday for bail ruling.

It has since emerged Mupinga has two outstanding warrants of arrests for unrelated crimes.

It is the State’s case that on May 31, this year, during the night, the accused person who owned four vicious dogs including three pitbulls and one Rottweiler negligently left the canines roaming unmuzzled in his yard, which is barricaded by a short perimeter wall.

The accused person’s vicious dogs reportedly scaled over the enclosure, subsequently attacking the now deceased Samuel Machara who had been walking along the nearby street.

Machara succumbed to deep wounds and lacerations he sustained.

The dogs were recovered from the accused person's home by the police and members of the Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
