MORE than 15 000 pilgrims are expected to attend this year's Anglican Church Bernard Mizeki pilgrimage in the farming town of Marondera this week.
The annual pilgrimage will be held between June 13 and 15 this year, with pilgrims from around Zimbabwe, the southern African region and the world at large expected to attend the event that commemorates the life of the martyr, who died in 1896.
Mizeki was an African Christian missionary and martyr.
Roads leading to the venue, 15 kilometres from the Marondera central business district, have been rehabilitated by the church.Traffic volume from Marondera to the venue is expected to increase, given that Anglicans are eager not to miss the first day —Friday.
Anglican Diocese of Manicaland bishop, Eric Ruwona, said they were ready for the commemorations.
“As usual, we are gathering in Marondera for the annual Bernard Mizeki commemorations; we are expecting pilgrims from across the globe,” he said.
“This is an important gathering of our church. So, we are encouraging everyone to come and we have already started prayers so that we do not record any accidents.”
The Anglican Council of Zimbabwe (ACZ) will support the commemoration.
