THE transformation to digital media has brought challenges and opportunities for media houses around the globe.
This was said on Wednesday by a media representative on behalf of senior editors during the opening session of the ongoing 14-day Seminar on Media Professionals for Zimbabwe in Changsha, Hunan province in China.
Twenty-two senior editors from both the public and private media in Zimbabwe are attending the seminar, organised by the Hunan International Business Vocational College and sponsored by the Commerce ministry in China.
“The massive transformation to digital media has brought with it new opportunities and in some instances challenges to media houses and we are glad that our being here over the next 14 days will allow us to learn from how your media is tackling this,” Victoria Ruzvidzo, the Editor of The Herald, said.
She said consumers of news “have become more discerning and somewhat sophisticated and it is our fervent hope that we will have much to take back home in terms of strategies to operate better and give our readers and audiences the content they desire in the format they expect.”
Hunan International Business Vocational College vice-president Gui Cheng said the institution, with a history spanning 70 years, boast “well-equipped facilities and a pristine environment”, with over 10 000 full-time students and more than 500 faculty members.
Gui said the college had spearheaded more than 100 provincial and national key projects, undertaken over 120 provincial and national research projects and published over 110 papers in prestigious journals like SCI, EI and CSSCI.
“Hunan International Business Vocational College aligns with the Belt and Road Initiative by training over 10 000 participants from developing countries and Belt and Road countries, spanning over 120 countries and regions,” he said.
