A SELF-PROCLAIMED prophet from Harare gruesomely murdered a 12-year-old boy and buried his body in a backyard garden.
This emerged in court when Panashe Mukura (31) appeared before
Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo facing a murder charge.
He was remanded in custody to July 15.
State prosecutor Nomsa Kangara said the tragic incident occurred on July 5.
The court heard that when the incident occurred, the suspect had been left in the company of the deceased as well as to also safeguard the house overnight.
During the night, Mukura allegedly stabbed the boy with a pair of scissors all over the body and mutilated his privates.

After the brutal attack, Mukura dragged the boy’s body outside and partially buried it in the garden behind the house.
The following morning, Mukura claimed that the boy was missing.
Investigations, however, led to the discovery of bloodstains on the doorstep of the house.
Mukura’s clothes were also blood stained.
A search of the property led to the discovery of the child’s partially buried body in the garden.
In court, Mukura voluntarily admitted to committing the crime.
“All I can remember is that I was sleeping with Keith John (deceased) and I think I was fighting with someone in my dreams. I don’t really understand what happened,” he stated.
“I only realised what I had done after burying the body and was shocked.”
Mukura was previously jailed for attempted murder and was released in July 2023.
