VILLAGERS in Furamera, Chihota in Marondera West constituency, are delighted after the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) in conjunction with the local authority installed piped water in the area.
The development came after Marondera Rural District Council (MRDC) rehabilitated the Mahusekwa water pipeline that was vandalised some years back.
Zinwa also connected water at a local clinic and traditional leader, Chief Chihota’s homestead, with more villagers’ homesteads expected to be connected by end of this month.
MRDC council chairperson Rufaro Gwanzura confirmed the development and said many villagers beyond Furamera are set to have piped water at their doorsteps.
“We are happy that we now have piped water on the people’s doorsteps. We are moving in phases and we applaud Zinwa for such initiative in this area,” Gwanzura said.
“On the first phase of the Zinwa water project, we as council, rehabilitated the pipeline from Mahusekwa which was vandalised 10years ago and we got water to Nyembanzvere Clinic in ward 14. The health facility serves thousands of patients.
“In the second phase, Zinwa connected Chief Chihota’s homestead and other locals, while the third phase saw the elderly in Furamera village also getting tap water.”
Added Gwanzura: “The community is also bringing their resources together to initiate the process of connecting water in remaining homesteads and to Furamera primary and secondary schools.
