King Mzilikazi Day celebrations resounding success

Ntini said the schools programme on the first day was a resounding success.

THE 2025 King Mzilikazi Day celebrations have been hailed as a historic and unifying event, drawing thousands from across Zimbabwe, the region and the diaspora.

The Mthwakazi “ka” Mzilikazi Cultural Association (MMCA) held a Press conference in Bulawayo on Wednesday to update journalists on the success of the festivities and announce the dates for next year's commemorations.

A member of Mthwakazi kaMzilikazi cultural association and event organiser, Desmond Ntini, said they were immensely proud of the overwhelming turnout and the rich cultural display that marked this year’s King Mzilikazi Day.

“The celebrations, held on September 5 and 6, featured a vibrant cultural parade, traditional performances, historical exhibitions, educational seminars, spiritual rituals and school engagement programmes,” he said.

“The event saw unprecedented participation from traditional leaders, dignitaries, government officials and international guests.”

Ntini said the schools programme on the first day was a resounding success.

“We are committed to continuing it next year. Unfortunately, learners from Bulawayo province could not attend, but we are engaging with local authorities to ensure they are included in 2026,” he said.

Ntini expressed gratitude to the government, sponsors and partners.

“This celebration would not have been possible without the generous support of government departments, cultural institutions, media houses, security services, volunteer teams and our many sponsors,” he said.

Ntini acknowledged the tireless work of the steering committee and sister organisations.

He announced that King Mzilikazi Day will take place on Saturday, September 5 next year with the schools programme scheduled for September 4, 2026.

Ntini said preparations were underway to make next year’s event more inclusive and impactful.

He invited the nation to upcoming commemorations, including Queen Loziba Thebe Day on September 13 in Inyathi and the Gadade Commemorations on November 8, 2025, along Harare Road, calling on all stakeholders to participate and support the cultural initiatives.
