More death threats directed at NCA’s Madhuku

National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Lovemore Madhuku has received fresh death threats, days after he was hospitalised following an alleged assault by suspected State agents.

Unknown suspects reportedly painted graffiti at the NCA offices warning Madhuku to abandon his campaign against the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.

“President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his government will be held responsible should anything happen to the NCA president,” party spokesperson Madock Chivasa told NewsDay.

“We are aware that the intimidation towards the NCA leader is meant to instil fear in the minds of Zimbabweans so that they do not oppose the draconian Amendment 3, which is being imposed on the people of Zimbabwe by enemies of democracy,” Chivasa said.

“We urge all Zimbabweans to speak with one voice and reject the unreasonable amendments meant to entrench Zanu PF hegemony in Zimbabwe.”

Madhuku and 17 other NCA members were assaulted and hospitalised on Sunday while holding an internal meeting to strategise against the proposed amendments.

The attack followed another incident a week earlier in which two NCA members were allegedly abducted by unidentified men, tortured and later dumped in the upmarket suburb of Highlands in Harare.

Madhuku has vowed to continue challenging the controversial Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 despite the threats and violence.
