ZIMBABWE has urged its nationals living in or visiting the Middle East to limit non-essential travel as fighting between Iran, the United States and Israel escalates.

The advisory follows a barrage of strikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran on Saturday, killing several senior officials. Tehran has since retaliated with strikes across the region.

US President Donald Trump said on Monday the conflict had initially been projected to last four to five weeks, but warned it could last longer.

The hostilities have entered their fifth day, with Iran targeting US and Israeli-linked assets in the Gulf as part of its military response.

In a statement, the Foreign Affairs ministry urged Zimbabweans in the region to closely follow official safety guidelines and updates issued by local authorities, stressing the need to adhere to public security protocols during the volatile period.

Ministry spokesperson Philisiwe Chidawanyika said authorities were closely monitoring developments.

“Guided by section 35(3) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which states that all Zimbabwean citizens are entitled to protection by the State wherever they may be, the government of Zimbabwe is fully committed to promoting, protecting and safeguarding the safety and welfare of its citizens living abroad,” Chidawanyika said.

“Zimbabweans living in or who have travelled to the affected region are urged to register their presence with the nearest embassy or consulate of the Republic of Zimbabwe and to limit their movements in line with regulations issued by authorities in host countries.”
