FORMER Cabinet minister and Binga legislator Gabuza Joel Gabbuza, who is fighting for his life following an attack in Kamativi, has been transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital, where his condition remains critical.
Gabbuza was attacked on Friday after he was allegedly caught red-handed in a compromising relationship with a married woman.
The seasoned politician and former Water Resources and Development minister during the Government of National Unity was reportedly caught at a homestead in Siamakwa village, Tinde ward 18.
Villagers yesterday described the attack as a scandalous incident involving a local woman and her estranged husband.
They told Southern Eye that Gabbuza had earlier given the woman a lift, but opted to spend the night at her homestead.
According to witnesses, two men believed to be the woman’s husband and a relative stormed the house in the early hours of Friday morning and launched a vicious attack on the senator, allegedly armed with knives.
He suffered multiple stab wounds, particularly to the head and hands and was rushed to Hwange Colliery Hospital.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo for specialist treatment. His condition is reportedly critical.

The attack has sent shockwaves throughout the local community and raised questions about the conduct of public officials.
Gabbuza, once a trusted lieutenant of the late Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, spent more than 23 years in Parliament as an MP and later senator.
He remains a prominent figure in Matabeleland North politics, particularly in Binga district, where he previously served as a legislator.
As of yesterday, medical sources confirmed that the senator remains in a critical condition, with doctors closely monitoring his recovery after emergency surgery.
The alleged attackers are still at large, while residents remain divided, with some expressing sympathy for the politician, while others say his predicament is self-inflicted.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said they were investigating the attack.
“We are still investigating. The information we have is that the suspects are in hiding but we are pursuing them,” he said.
